
Egyptian Treasures in Europe
The series Egyptian Treasures in Europe, edited by Dirk van der Plas, is an electronic publication of Egyptian collections from european museums, which participate in the Champollion (acronym for: Cultural Heritage And Multilingual Programma Of Longstanding Legacy In Open Network) project, on CD-ROM. Each volume presents 1.500 objects with elaborate description, detailed object information, color images and a glossary of more than 400 items in seven languages (dutch, english, french, german, italian, portuguese, spanish).

7 Languages
At startup, you can choose your language out of seven languages: dutch, english, french, german, italian, portuguese and spanish.
5 Search criteria
On the object search screen, you can enter up to five combined search criteria: museum, object type, material, period and site. For example, you can look up all golden jewellery from the New Kingdom.
Thumbnail images
Your search results are presented as thumbnail images, in order to quickly and visually browse them.
Images and object description
For each object, at least one full screen image is available, and a description in all of the seven languages.
Hieroglyphs
The inscriptions on many objects are shown in hieroglyphs, transliteration and translation. The texts and hieroglyphs can be printed.
Advanced mode
The advanced mode opens up the full database, offering detailed scholarly information to professionals and amateurs alike. Here, more complex queries can be made by using any of the terms from the Multilingual Egyptological Thesaurus.
Virtual Reality
QuickTime VR technology is applied to show objects from all sides by selecting them and rotating them. The same technology offers panoramic views of archaeological sites as well as of the main room in each collection.
Glossary
A glossary of over 400 entries explains Egyptian words and concepts, illustrated with pictures and line drawings. Scholarly information about gods, kings, dynasties, archaeological sites, etc., is given in a user-friendly way.
8 Themes
A thematical section with eight themes provides information and links to objects on subjects like script, life after death, temple cult and kingship.
Guided tour
A guided tour presents objects from each collection with a spoken commentary.
