Restoring Ancient Egyptian artifacts... by computer

With modern photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop and Paintshop Pro it is possible to perform restorations on ancient Egyptian artifacts without even touching them. It is done by retouching the artifact on photo, a "virtual restoration" so to speak. The aim of this method is to restore the artifact to more or less its original appearance as it would have appeared right after completion by the Egyptian craftsman, taking away the scars of past ages. Only artifacts are chosen whose restoration involves little or no speculation as to their original state.
